Well, unions are an organized power base and therefore worth courting.

Unions deliver votes and campaign money. Not to mention more (ahem) personal considerations.

Big Business, Big Labor, Big Government -- welcome to ObamaWorld.

Who was the venture capitalist who recently said he greatly preferred the current venture climate. In the old days of the tech boom, picking winners was a crap shoot. Now, you can invest in green companies that the government subsidizes. Making money is a slam dunk. Just buy influence with the politicians and cash the checks.

Gary, you're technically correct -- but common usage has effectively changed the meaning of the word. It no longer means the Mussoline corporate-state, but any sort of dictatorship, and is often expanded to a general-use epithet (fascist, racist, communist, etc.).

Compare the word "liberal," which used to mean someone with Adam Smith-like respect for autonomy, free markets, etc. Now it means someone who advocates the use of the state to eliminate or restrict personal liberty.

lol ... lets not mince words on what we are describing here. We could give it a fancy new name, but I think that the dull old name works better. Because at the end of the day it gives continuity for what will become if we follow it's siren song. Forget the old word? Here it is in all its glory ... Fascism.
