*sigh* The discrepancy between truth and bureaucracy should nauseate everyone.

Dobbs is only saying that as we get more and more crowded, the quality of life goes down. His reference to voter numbers aside, the important question is how do we (as a world) limit our population growth. One start would be the stopping of govt payments to mothers who have children they can't afford, at least after their first "mistake".

"<i>Today, I am one of 285 million people, so my vote and impact decreases with the increase in the population</i>".

I basically have two responses to this:

1) Voter turnout today is probably so much lower than it was when the country had 100 million people that this "dilution effect" is probably nil.

2) Even if this didn't happen, the difference between one vote in 100 million and one in 285 million is insignificant. Either way, the rational ignorance hypothesis predicts that the median voter will not perceive that he/she will influence the outcome of the election (the probability is essentially zero), and so will not bother to inform himself/herself.

Does anyone else think Lou Dobbs is getting Alzheimer's? Or is he just nostalgic for the "good old days"?

"After all, Hitler was voted into power in Germany"--not so. Hitler ran for the German presidency, but was defeated by Hindenberg. Hitler later became Chancellor, but he wasn't elected, he was *appointed* (by Hindenberg).
