Home Theater Projector Reviews

I am a big proponent of front projection for serious home theater.  I currently have a 108" wide (not diagonal) projection set up and I paid less for it than many people do for their 50" flat screens.  Unfortunately, it is 720p rather than 1080p, but there is a great new crop of affordable 1080p front projectors that I am lusting after.  This site has very good, complete reviews of front projectors and has just posted its roundup of the best 1080p machines.

I'm planning to retire and move next year. Naturally, one thing I'm planning for is a home theater in my new place. Thanks for the link -- I've bookmarked it and will be checking it regularly!

Doesn't the fan noise bother you?

Only when watching silent movies.

I'd love to have one and our condo is set up for it perfectly, but my wife refuses to deal with a screen. Ah well... 55" DLP still doesn't suck.

Screen-Goo is an acceptable substitute for a screen; your wall becomes the screen, but doesn't look like one. Just a thought.

I think the point at which it makes more sense to buy a projector is around 50 inch - beyond that, you obviously have the room for a bigger screen, and skyrocketing cost of TV's past this size makes a projector a viable candidate financially.

That said, I've been ogling some of the big new generation LCD's at bestbuy and the picture quality on some of them is mindboggling(as well as the price - the one I really liked was 7 grand).

What's amazing to me however, is the price point at which TV's get insanely expensive is marching ever upwards in terms of size - I occasionally see Toshiba 47" LCDs on sale below $1500, with decent performance.
