Yes, I want my subscription price back with interest and penalties. :-)

With history as interesting as it really is, I've always marvelled at how schools manage to turn most kids off of it, but that is a topic for another day. Nice post.

Captain Wattenberg was captured when, after a massive nationwide manhunt, he walked into the lobby of the Adams Hotel in Downtown Phoenix and asked, in a thick German accent, for directions to the train station! That's one of my favorite stories of Phoenix lore to tell to my tour guests.

The subject of the movie was based on a real escape that occurred in a German PoW camp. I recently saw an episode of Nova that showed the rediscovery of the actual camp. They dug up the actual tunnels and brought 3 of the survivors from the escape back to talk about it. There's more information about the real escape available at http://www.historyinfilm.com/escape/real1.htm.
